I am a finish carpenter with 21 years in the trade. I bought the Makita ls1016 because of it's solid reputation, versatility, and in particular, the extremely smooth function of the slide. Other saws that I have tried, even more expensive ones, do not compare with ease of motion found with this saw. It can be hard to make a nice cut if the slide has a "jerky" feel as you move it forward. I held off on the fifth star because I didn't like the "dual-slide" as much as the single I've tried in the past. You do feel the transition(slight bump) as opposed to the single slide model. Then again, I am super fussy. But it is still better than any other saw I've tried and the duel-slide makes it more compact. All-in-all an awsome saw.

After reading several different "expert reviews", we went with this saw....and we've never looked back. It has everything you need and it's not too heavy to move it from one place to another without assistance.
